I have decided to do a behavioral management plan for my entire class. Until I began this case study, no students really stuck out to me as needing a behavior plan more than any of the others. Since I began working on full-class behavior, however, I have seen that some students do not respond to it very well. I have begun more individualized plans with them, but I have decided to stick with the full class case study because I think it is important to see what the whole class will respond to.
I began the new plan with a morning meeting where I had the students act out scenarios of inappropriate and appropriate classroom behaviors. We discussed each scene as well as came up with a list of class goals for our behavior. Now I can point out these goals to the class whenever we are having problems.
I have not yet decided how to take note of their progress behaviorally nor have I decided what to do next with implementing this plan.
How are you keeping up with notes?

Hey Anna!!
ReplyDeleteI am having the same difficulty coming up with the best way to take notes. If I think of a good way to do it though I'll let you know!
But, I love what you are doing with the whole class. In a way I think that would be more interesting to do as a case study instead of just one child. Now that you have this class plan in place, you said some of the children have been somewhat rebelling. It is somewhat surprising that they did this, but what is it they are actually doing now?

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of acting out appropriate and inappropriate behaviors! My CT and I did this once when we were trying to begin doing a Reader's Theatre in our classroom.
Our students had tried to do the Reader's Theatre once and were completely unfocused and playful. The next day, my CT and I pretended to do the Reader's Theatre, only we did it exactly how the students had done it (only exaggerated!) - rustling papers, laughing, talking too softly, wandering, etc etc.
While the students thought it was really funny, they definitely "got the picture." We were able to have a discussion about it and talk about appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Needless to say, the next trial of Reader's Theatre went extremely well!
